Types of Marine Vessels
Commercial Vessels-these ships are divided into three categories: cargo ships, passenger ships and special-purpose ships.
Cargo ships are used to carry goods and cargo.

Passenger ships are used to carry passengers and vehicles on short trips. E. g.
-cruise ships
-ferries
-ocean liners
Special-purpose ship were used fro specific task. E.g.
-rescue boats
-research boats
-ice breakers
-rescue boats
-research boats
-ice breakers

· Naval ships are usually used by the navy forces. E.g.
-warships
-submarines
· Fishing vessels are used for………….fishing! Their classifications vary according to the type of fish they catch, architecture, type of method used to fish, e.t.c.
OUR BOAT
For our D.T project we agreed on doing a boat with a mixture of two hulls: the flat-bottomed hull and the V-shaped hull. We chose these because both hull types are efficient. The flat-bottomed hull can ride on top of water at high speed and the V-shaped hull can cut through the water.
Unfortunately, both hull types have there own disadvantages. The flat-bottomed hull is not stable and is not suitable for rocky waters. The V-shaped hull requires an engine to make is moves swiftly across the water so that it can cut through it.
We decided to combine the two because we felt that they would work together compatibly to even out there disadvantages.
Evaluate
We didn’t do quite well in the investigation stage because we missed out on researching about something very important which was about how the different types of marine vessels are being used today. It was quite hard finding the information on marine vessels because there were very few websites that actually talked about them. Most of them were websites used to auction them off. In the design stage, we made the boat have a V-shaped hull but instead we ended up attaching a hull to our flat-bottomed boat. When we tried it in the water, the v-shaped hull didn’t cut effectively through the water so we decided to remove it and this made the boat go faster. We realized that the flat-bottomed hull was okay just as it was and performed better.
